Two men involved in commercial cannabis-growing were given suspended jail terms at Bradford Crown Court.

Prosecutor Duncan Ritchie told the court that on May 16 last year, police visited a rented house on Buck Street, Denholme, to find both men – Gary Milne, 40, of Airedale Avenue, Cottingley, and David Sumner, 43, of Manor Road, Cottingley – at the property, along with 25 cannabis plants with a street value of £9,685.

After arresting the men, officers then raided Milne’s home to find 12 plants, producing £4,500 of the drug. The electricity had been illegally bypassed.

Milne and Sumner had both pleaded guilty to the production of cannabis, with Milne also admitting a charge of illegal abstraction of electricity.

Milne was given a six-month sentence, suspended for two years, and ordered to perform 200 hours of unpaid community work. Sumner received a four-month sentence, suspended for 18 months, and a 30-day activity requirement.
