Chance for Bracken Bank's budding business leaders

First published in News

Bracken Bank residents are being invited to support their community by going into business.

They will be shown how to become the “next big thing” at an information session tomorrow on the estate.

Bracken Bank and District Community Association has teamed up with leading union GMB to run the session. The organisations are looking for individuals and groups who would like to become entrepreneurs.

A spokesman said: “There is a potential for money to be awarded to forward-thinking groups and support setting up in business.”

Michelle Bateson, the GMB’s local community officer, is responsible for setting up projects to help unemployed people in Keighley, under the banner of Opportunities for Keighley.

One aim is for a chain of businesses to be set up at Keighley community centres, where residents could come together to develop products they could make and sell.

For several months Michelle has been working with a range of Keighley organisations to provide practical support for the fledgling “social enterprises”. Tomorrow’s session, entitled Enterprise Opportunities in Bracken Bank, is at the Sue Belcher Centre in Bracken Bank Avenue, from 10am to 2pm. A buffet lunch will be provided.

Further details are available from Michelle on 07850 714995 or michelle.bateson@gmb.org.uk or Bracken Bank development worker Pip Gibson on 07587 210101.
