Oakworth and Oakbank children happy to join the culture club

Dozens of primary school children enjoyed music, French language and art workshops – all based on a rainforest theme.
The sessions were hosted by Oakbank School, which welcomed 60 Year 5 pupils from Oakworth Primary.
Co-ordinator and music teacher Sarah Marsden said: “This is designed to help the pupils understand other cultures, learn to work as a team and also to let them see the secondary school environment.
“It’s gone brilliantly. The children seem to have loved it and it’s been very interactive.”
The music workshop saw the children learn how to perform tribal-style music as a group, using instruments such as drums, xylophones, glockenspiels and even sand-filled bottles.
They also listened to the sound created by a traditional rain stick instrument, which is designed to mimic the sound of heavy rainfall.
