Two brothers have been ordered to pay more than £5,000 each in fines and costs after hygiene problems were uncovered at a takeaway they own.
Muhammad Farooq, 27, and Muhammad Waqas, 24, both of Redcliffe Street in Keighley, admitted 17 offences when they appeared at Bradford and Keighley Magi-strates’ Court on January 14.
The court heard their Raja’s Chicken Bar outlet in Whetley Lane, Bradford, failed two Brad-ford Council inspections in Oct-ober 2012 and June 2013. Issues included cross-contamination bet-ween raw chicken and ready-to-eat lettuce, staff not following correct procedures for washing and food debris in hand-wash basins.
Farooq and Waqas were each fined £3,600 and ordered to pay £1,486 in costs. In mitigation, the court heard they had not known of the problems and sacked their manager when they found out.
