A company is planning to stage a road safety event in Keighley this spring to ensure road users stay safe during the run-up to the Tour de France Grand Depart.

Lesley O’Brien, of training firm Freight Train, outlined the details at the latest meeting of the Worth the Tour group in Oxenhope.

She said the event would focus on vulnerable road users to ensure the anticipated increase in cyclists and crowds of spectators does not result in more accidents.

The session will take place on May 7 at University Academy Keighley, and is being backed by Sport Keighley, DHL logistics and Worth the Tour.

It will feature real-life stories explaining the perspectives of lorry drivers and cyclists, and youngsters will be able to sit in a truck and experience the drivers’ limited visibility.

There will also be a Top Gear-style track challenge for cyclists, lessons for beginners, a Highway Code quiz plus drugs and alcohol awareness.
