Adventurers are being given the chance to take part in the trip of a lifetime to raise money for Manorlands and help the hospice celebrate its 40th anniversary.

The Sue Ryder centre at Oxen-hope is staging a Nepal trek in November, and registration is now under way.

An open evening has been organised at the hospice on January 30 for people to learn more about the challenge.

The Manorlands fundraising team will be joined at the event by an expedition leader from tour operator Discover Adventure, who will give an illustrated talk about their own experiences of trekking in Nepal and what people can expect.

The open evening takes place in the hospice’s Woodhouse Gate from 6.30pm.

During the expedition, participants will spend six days trekking among the world’s highest mountains, including the breathtaking Annapurna region.

There is a £245 registration fee, and each person is asked to raise £2,995. Return flights, accommodation, support and most food are included.

Among those who have already signed up is Mandy Smith, a finance assistant at the hospice.

And she has launched a Virgin Money Giving web page – http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/MandySmith1 – for donations.

Manorlands fundraiser, Matthew Binns, said: “We accidentally sent something about the trek to Mandy’s printer and she decided it was fate! The challenge is something she had wanted to try.”

Lizzie Procter, the hospice’s palliative care services manager, said: “Trekking Nepal for Manor-lands will enable us to provide incredible care for people living with incurable illnesses in Airedale, Craven and North and West Bradford.

“Last year, our dedicated team at Manorlands cared for 1,170 people locally, at a cost of more than £2.7 million. The support of our trekkers will enable us to continue providing this care.”
