Work inspired by American artist Jackson Pollock has been on display at Stanbury Primary School.

Pupils opened a temporary art gallery and invited parents, villagers and local politicians to a launch party.

Youngsters created their own paintings after studying the style of Pollock, who was a major figure in the abstract expressionist movement.

The school spokesman said the children’s paintings were based on the theme of the seasons.

She added: “They learned the same painting style, and the visitors were all very impressed by the quality of the work.”

The year six children also sold cakes in the gallery to raise money for art projects at the school.
