Last year’s Christmas decorations from a Keighley supermarket will be used at the end of this year by local schoolchildren.

Sainsbury’s has donated its larger-than-life decorations to Hothfield Junior School in Silsden and Steeton Primary School.

The decorations, which include Christmas trees, puddings, wrapped presents and snowmen, were hung over the Keighley store’s aisles throughout December.

Store manager, Phil Butterfield, said: “We’re delighted to donate these decorations to Steeton and Silsden schools.

“We received great feedback from our customers on this year’s decorations, and it’s great to ensure they have found a good home in the community.”

Mr Butterfield said the donations would help ensure Sainsbury’s maintained its commitment to its No Waste No Landfill policy. The company achieved zero waste to landfill in all its stores last year.

Customers can recycle batteries, paper, card, cans, glass and plastics throughout the year at the Keighley store’s recycling centre.

They can also recycle clothing and other items, like DVDs and books, to support Oxfam.
