The department store chain in charge of a Keighley town centre shop have confirmed the outlet will shut by the end of August.

Beales announced the news for its Keighley Home store in Hanover Street on Tuesday.

A spokesman said: “The lease on the Keighley Home store comes to an end at the end of February.

“We’re seeking to try and get an extension from the landlord that will enable the store to remain open until the end of August. It’s hoped we can achieve this extension, whereupon the store will close.”

The spokesman added: “The costs of keeping the store open are not matched by sufficient sales to enable it to make a contribution to the group trading, and there is no feasible way to achieve this in the short term.

“We’ll be working with the landlord, and then detailing the next steps for all affected employees.”

Beales declined to reveal how many staff are employed at the home store. Its fashion store outlet, in the nearby Airedale Shopping Centre, is unaffected and will remain open.
