Police have revealed a “significant decrease” in burglaries in Keighley.
A total of 25 burglaries of homes were reported in the town between December 9, 2013, and January 13, 2014 – well down on last year’s corresponding figure.
The update was delivered to Keighley Town Council’s watch and transport committee by an officer from Keighley Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT).
But robberies are currently of concern, with five reported in the past six weeks.
Sergeant Alex Alderson, of the NPT, also updated the meeting on the ongoing issue of stone theft, noting only two further incidents had been reported since November last year.
A ‘Smart Water’ campaign is planned for Keighley and the Worth Valley, in which marker liquid is used to identify stone at risk of being stolen. Councillors agreed to help fund this initiative.
