A project displaying Hollywood-style signs in Oxenhope to welcome the Tour de France is resorting to some Yorkshire humour to draw people’s attention to the major sporting event.
‘Eat Pies’ is the not-so-stern injunction now in place in a field above Shaw Lane, as part of the Project Hollywood scheme.
The message is due to change every two or three weeks until the arrival of the Grand Depart on July 6.
Project leader Councillor Russell Brown said: “We’ll be having different humorous salutations every couple of weeks or so.
“We’re having a bit of a laugh, and we’re hoping to get a group of butchers together with a big pie next to the sign to help promote trade.
“It’s generating a lot of interest and it’s gone mad on Twitter, with people wanting to know what it’s all about. We’ve had nothing but positive feedback, and it’s about having some fun while raising the profile of the area.”
