This year’s Keighley Gala will again be raising money for Manorlands Hospice.

Organisers confirmed the main beneficiary of the 138th entertainment extravaganza earlier this week but also said they would be seeking suggestions for other potential good causes closer to the time.

They have also voiced an early appeal for support from Keighley district companies.

Gala committee chairman Shona Brunskill said: “Any local businesses wanting to sponsor us in any way can get in touch through the gala e-mail address at keighleygala2012@gmail.com.

“We try to keep our costs to a minimum so any help would be appreciated. There are some things we have to spend money on, like printing, winners’ certificates and posters, so donations for these would be good.

“We would also welcome items for the tombola and prizes for the bonny baby competition or the dog show, as well as people who are willing to lend us a hand on the weekend for a couple of hours.”

She said the competition to pick the 2014 gala queen would be on April 12, with further details released soon. This year’s Keighley Gala will be on June 8.

The organising committee revealed earlier this month it will be including a Le Tour-related class in the gala procession, giving participants a chance to highlight cycling, France or anything else which celebrates the Tour de France’s arrival in Keighley on July 6.

Other themes for the 2014 procession include carnival, First World War 100th anniversary, vintage clothing and computer-game characters.

Organisers have said once they have finished meeting council requirements to ensure the parade can go ahead safely, they will be able to begin taking entries for the procession.
