A retired dentist who formerly worked in Keighley and South Craven has died aged 62.

Andy Davidson was born and educated in Leeds.

After qualifying from dental school in the mid-1970s, he began working in Keighley before opening practices in Cowling and Colne.

He settled in Cowling with first wife, Helen, and they had two children, Joanne and Ian.

Mr Davidson spent 30 years in the village, serving at various times as chairman of Cow-ling’s gala committee and the governing bodies at Cowling and South Craven schools.

He took early retirement in 2002.

Mr Davidson married his second wife, Sarah, three years later, and they made their home in Skipton.

He was diagnosed with terminal cancer in September 2012.

A family spokesman said: “The overwhelming expressions of condolence the family has received and the number of people attending his funeral on Friday are testament to the respect and affection in which he was held by friends, colleagues, former patients and his extended family. He was a true gentleman and will be sadly missed.”
