Public consultation on the planned closure of Keighley’s main post office has ended.

The deadline for people to give their views on the proposal – to shut the Towngate branch and move its facilities into the town’s WH Smith store – passed on Monday.

Post Office bosses said this week responses will now be analysed.

“The consultation team will examine and digest all the correspondence and communications,” said Steve Bruckshaw, a senior stakeholder manager with the Post Office.

“Until that is complete, no decision will be announced. At this stage, we don’t know when that will be.”

Fears have been voiced in recent months the WH Smith store could be too cramped to accommodate a post office.

But Mr Bruckshaw said the layout of the premises would be reconfigured to house the planned six counters.
