A four-strong team is planning a gruelling Lake District challenge to raise money for Manorlands.

The quartet aims to conquer 3,208ft-high Scafell Pike – England’s highest mountain – and kayak 20 miles across Coniston Water.

Ev Pritchard, his partner Jayne Harris, Jawaid Iqbal and Iain Nutter are tackling the energy-sapping ‘Pike & Paddle’ assault over two days, April 19 and 20.

“We’ve done various fundraising things before for Manorlands – such as the Keighley BigK 10k – but nothing on this scale,” said Mr Pritchard, 47, an out-of-hours Local Care Direct driver from Oakworth.

“I tried a bit of kayaking and Jawaid said he’d never been up a mountain – and mountaineering is my hobby – so we thought we’d combine the two and raise some money.”

Mr Pritchard is a former work colleague of Mr Iqbal and Mr Nutter, both of Prestige Driver Training in Keighley.

“We had the idea for the challenge just before Christmas, and preparations are going well,” added Mr Pritchard.

“Jayne and myself have done a few trips on Coniston Water, and all four of us are planning a climb up Pen-y-ghent. We’re hoping to complete each of the Lake District challenges within about eight hours.”

They will tackle Scafell Pike from Great Langdale, covering a route of about 11 miles. The start is at the Old Dungeon Ghyll hotel.

And their kayak challenge will be launched from the Coniston Park Coppice Caravan Club site, where they will be staying.

Mr Pritchard said the group didn’t have a set fundraising target.

“We just want to raise as much as we can,” he added. “Manorlands is a local charity that does incredible work and relies on donations to keep going. Everything we raise will be going to a great cause.”

The group has set up a Virgin Money Giving website for donations or people can visit the prestigedrivertraining.co.uk website.
