Poptastic idea for South Craven School drinks contest

A poptastic idea has helped send South Craven School students to the regional finals of an enterprise competition.

The teenagers created a new healthy juice drink for the Real Business Challenge, set up by Coca-Cola Enterprises.

The challenge began as an assignment for year nine students, who were split into four groups to form companies and develop new drinks brands.

Each group made a PowerPoint presentation to a panel of staff, and the winning drink was called Fruits With Smiles.

A school spokesman said: “The students took it very seriously and embarked on market research, product testing, and research into packaging, pricing, branding and finance decisions.

“They even made a selection of juices, aimed at a particular market, which they tested on students and teachers.”

In the winning group, which will attend the regional finals this month, were David Hopkins, Niamh Fearnley, Sophie Hodgson, Lucy Lonsdale, Rosie Whiteoak, Mehan Hickman-Grey and Felicia Sutton.
