Silsden town councillors have voted unanimously to reduce their council tax precept.

People living in average Band D properties will pay £17.17 in the next financial year, as opposed to £17.66 this year.

The reduction follows an increase of £4.10 in 2013 to give the council a contingency fund in case of by-elections.

Silsden mayor Councillor Chris Atkinson said: “It’s important the town council is in a position to react if there is a need to protect services important to Silsden, but we are mindful of the cost of living and the squeeze on people’s disposable incomes.”
