Bradford Council officials have confirmed they intend to take action to deal with chronic flooding on the outskirts of Oakworth.

They have responded to concerns by residents of the hamlet of Newsholme, who have been affected by water gushing across Gill Lane.

Speaking in last week’s Keighley News, resident Howard Varley, 60, said poor drainage had been an issue in the area for three or four years, making the road particularly hazardous when the water froze in cold weather.

Now it appears action will be taken to resolve the issue.

A council spokesman said: “We are planning on clearing the vegetation back from the sides of the road, clearing away debris from the gullies and silt from the dykes that run along this stretch.

“We will also be clearing the weep holes on the road over the bridge to ensure water flows into the beck. This is scheduled to take place within the next few weeks.”
