Organisers of Haworth’s entry in this year’s Yorkshire in Bloom contest hope the judges might be able to assess the village before the Tour de France passes though.
Village resident Gill Hill said ground-level floral displays could be damaged by the huge crowds expected to flock to Haworth to see the Grand Depart on July 6.
She said members of the rejuvenated Haworth in Bloom group plan to go door-to-door to promote the village’s participation in the competition.
“We will be selling hanging baskets to traders and anyone else who wants them,” she added. “We will soon have a website and a Facebook page up and running.
“People are willing to help, but it’s now just about working out how to co-ordinate everyone.”
