A tag rugby day to support a Silsden teenager who broke his neck playing the sport will now help others with spinal injuries.

It will take place from 10am on May 25 at Keighley Rugby Union Football Club.

The fixture was originally started to raise funds for the ongoing care of Nathan Cubitt, who was badly hurt in November 2011.

However, from now on, as well as raising money for the Nathan Cubitt Trust, the day will also be used to support the Matt Hampson Foundation.

This provides advice, support or treatment for people who suffer serious injury or disability while taking part in sport.

Organisers are now hunting for volunteers for the rugby day, as well as dance groups, novice and professional teams and tombola prizes.

A spokesman for the organisers added: “We’re looking to speak to people with small businesses that do craft fairs, farmers’ markets or country fairs, who want to come and sell their products.

“We had about 500 people last year, so there are always people around.”
