A soup kitchen operating in Keighley town centre once a week has served more than 2,000 meals in the past ten months.
Intouch Foundation, which helps needy and deprived people from a temporary base in Church Green on Wednesday evenings, has expressed its thanks for the support offered by Keighley Town Council.
Showfield resident Khurm Mezhar, the Keighley co-ordinator for the charity, said: “We’ve had a lot of backing from the town council, with the town mayor visiting us every couple of weeks. We thank the council for that.
“We now have a big pool of volunteers willing to help. They are people of all ages, but it’s mostly younger, local people.
“The number we support has doubled since we started in Keighley.” The soup kitchen operates from 6.30pm to 7.30pm on Wednesdays.
