Keighley district people volunteering to be part of the biggest sporting event to visit the area can now take the last step towards realising their ambition.

The next stage for people wanting to make history and become a Tour Maker for Yorkshire’s Tour de France Grand Depart is now under way.

Everyone who registered an interest as a Tour Maker is now being invited to fill in the final application.

Asda has committed itself to the recruitment and clothing of the volunteers and will provide them with a Tour Maker uniform designed by the retailer’s own clothing brand.

About two million people are expected to line the routes to cheer on the cyclists and the Tour Makers will have vital roles to play, from greeting visitors from around the globe to marshalling the route.

Anyone who expressed an interest in becoming a Tour Maker should have received an e-mail to complete an application form. If the e-mail hasn’t arrived, contact questions@tourmakers2014.com or call 0844 8484517.

The Tour Maker project was devised by Welcome to Yorkshire following the tourism agency’s winning bid to bring the Grand Depart to the county.

Chief executive Gary Verity said: “It shows there is a huge public appetite to get involved in this momentous event.”
