In response to Lisa Sanderson’s letter about school parking – People have to drive there when it’s a village school (Keighley News, February 13) – may I offer a different view.

I moved into my property 40 years ago when it was all green fields.

Then 30 years ago the local authority built a middle school 100 yards away, which wasn’t a problem as local children walked and others arrived by bus. In recent years, the local authority changed it to a primary school, and vehicles started causing problems for local residents opposite the school.

A nursery was added, which increased the traffic and now spills into surrounding roads, and in the next few months, the size of the school will double, as will the parking problem, not least as to where the extra staff will park.

Mornings do not appear too much of a problem as parents drop children off, which usually takes about ten minutes.

Difficulties occur in the afternoons when cars begin to arrive at 2pm to ensure a parking place for collecting children at 3.15pm.

Vehicles park on both sides of the cul-de-sac (where I live) on the pavement (which is illegal), and often obstruct access to residents’ drives (which is also illegal). And I dread to think what would happen if an emergency vehicle needed access at these times.
