It’s not often I’m moved to write to the newspapers about something, but the Keighley News article that work has finally begun to rebuild Oakworth’s Dockroyd Cemetery wall and gates makes me very pleased – ‘Owner to pay for a new grave wall’ (February 6).

It is a few years now since they were demolished.

Now Bradford Council has taken action thanks to the efforts of our three ward councillors – Glen Miller, Russell Brown and Rebecca Poulsen – I hope the owner will feel the results of his previous action in his wallet very soon, when the council sends him the bill for the work.

I was the local resident that supplied the original photographs (one of which is shown here) from a set I took a number of years ago, and I’m really pleased they not only recorded the history, but they have been used to make good a valuable part of our local heritage.

I look forward to taking a new set of pictures when the new wall and gates are completed.

I’ll make an offer of £5 to the current owner to purchase the cemetery off him, and then the people of Oakworth can turn it into an asset for the village instead of the mess it currently is.
