A former Keighley woman who led dressmaking classes at the town’s college until she was 93, has died.

Clara Bailey – who was a resident at Currergate Nursing Home in Steeton, where she celebrated her 100th birthday last year – was born in Ayrshire, the youngest of nine children.

During the Second World War, she married soldier Thomas Bailey and they moved to Keighley.

Mr Bailey worked as an iron moulder in the town. He died in 1976.

Once all their children were in school, Mrs Bailey worked in catering, and began the dressmaking on retiring.

Mrs Bailey also leaves behind ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great, great-grandchild.

The funeral service is at St Anne’s Church in North Street at 12.30pm on February 28.
