A charity is asking Keighley people to open up their homes to help vulnerable young people.
Action for Children is seeking lodgings for 16 to 24-year-olds, who are leaving foster or residential care and may struggle to cope with living independently.
Kath Copley, project co-ordinator with the charity’s Bradford district Stepping Stones service, said: “We provide supported accommodation for young people making the transition from living in care, but to do that we need more members of the community to open up their homes. You can make a huge impact on the life of a young person by providing them with emotional support or helping them to prepare for their first tenancy.
“Many of these young people have never learned practical skills, such as budgeting, cooking and cleaning.”
Funding is provided to cover rent and utility bills, and on-call support is available. Call 07904105930 or e-mail kath.cop ley@actionforchildren.org.uk for details.
