Manorlands has launched a search for volunteers.

The Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice needs people to fill a range of roles.

“As a Manorlands volunteer, you will make a real difference to the lives of our patients, their families and friends,” said Johnnie Briggs, volunteer co-ordinator at the hospice, in a plea to potential recruits.

“If you are compassionate, enjoy working with people and would love to be part of the team here, then we would like to hear from you.”

Among people needed are ward volunteers, whose duties include taking drinks to patients’ rooms, meeting and greeting visitors, shopping and providing a listening ear. There are morning and evening shifts, and volunteers are asked to commit to at least one shift a fortnight.

Records volunteers, who compile medical files for use across the hospice, are also required. Other vacancies are for a day therapy unit befriender, who greets and talks with day patients, engages in social activities and helps with lunch. Someone is needed on Tuesdays, between 9.45am and 3pm.

And the unit also needs drivers, willing to use their own cars to transport patients between their home and the unit. The drivers’ working day can start as early as 8.30am, and patients come from a wide area.
