Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Haworth, is organising a parish meal at Chaplin’s on Sunday at 12.30pm. The cost is £14.50 for a three-course meal. Those interested are asked to add their names to the list at the back of the church.

West Lane Methodist Church Council meet at 1.30pm today, and the Well Being Café on Friday from 1.30-3.30pm. The café is held on the third Friday in alternate months and is aimed at the elderly and their carers. Entertainment will be by Ken Romano. Stanbury and District WI welcomed some new members at their meeting on February 10. The talk by Margaret Smith from the Contact Point was on crime prevention or reduction, mainly house break-ins. Useful tips on how to deter would-be burglars were given, and items such as door jammers, purse chains and door handle alarms were for sale. These are also available at the Contact Point. The Upper Worth Valley History Group has announced its spring history walks in and around Haworth. They are all on Wednesdays, March 12, 19 and 26. Then on April 9, 16 and 23.

Keighley Community Transport is providing a shopping bus from our area – Haworth, Stanbury, Oxenhope and Leeming – to the Keighley supermarkets for a trial period. It will pick up and drop off by arrangement and is targeted at the elderly and disabled. The service for the trial period will be free. This week the Worth Valley Young Farmers Club Tuesday’s meeting was horse judging at the Wilsden Equestrian Centre with the meeting starting at 7.45pm. A great night had by all, especially as this was a few members’ first attempt at judging. Worth Valley Young Farmers haven’t been horse judging of a year so the tutorial beforehand was very useful. Worth Valley First Responders are local volunteers trained by the Yorkshire Ambulance Service, who respond to local emergency calls. Their aim is to assist and treat people who need assistance from the ambulance service until their care can be handed over to an ambulance crew. More responders are needed now. Haworth Riding For the Disabled is asking for voluntary help for a couple of hours each week on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday mornings from 10am-noon or on Saturdays from 9.15am-1.25pm. Further information on (01535) 649448.

Haworth and Worth Valley Rotary Club meets at the Old Silent Inn Stanbury for a meal every Tuesday at 7.30 for 8pm. Recently they have been running a “contact the elderly” project This is to invite the elderly to afternoon teas once a month on a Sunday afternoon. The organiser, Hilary Wharton (01535 647531) is seeking some volunteer drivers to help. They would only be required three or four times a year to drive mainly in the Haworth area. CarelinK befriending scheme can provide support and companionship to older people who live alone and do not have many visitors. CarelinK can arrange for one of its volunteer befrienders to visit each week for a cuppa and a chat, or perhaps to take a short walk together. Volunteers are police checked and vetted.
