Oakworth old people’s welfare group meets at Holden Hall every Thursday afternoon, from 1.45-3.30pm. New members very welcome.

Keighley Youth Theatre, KYDZ, meets every Thursday at Oakworth Methodist Church. The group has up to 20 members aged ten to 18, and recruit new members through drama workshops. At their Thursday sessions the group learn drama skills as well as devising performances. They also present two stage productions each year. The next production is being planning, so watch this space.

Sunday: Christ Church, eucharist service will be at 9.30am, and afterwards you are welcome to share tea and coffee in the church hall.

St John’s Church: Newsholme, sung evensong service will be at 3m.

Methodist church: service at 10.30am will be led by the Rev Barbara Walls and will be followed by refreshments.

Today’s service at Slack Lane Baptist Church will be at 10.45am.

Monday: Oakworth Scouts meet on in Monday evenings in Holden Hall, starting at 7pm. New members are always welcome.

Rainbows and Brownies meet this evening – Rainbows from 5.15-6.15pm and Brownies from 6.30-7.45pm. The Airedale Ruggers group has more than 20 members. A small group of who meet in Oakworth Methodist Church lounge on the third Monday of each month at 6.30pm. Anyone interested please come along, you will be most welcome.

Oakworth Morris dancers are always on the lookout for dancers and musicians to help continue the tradition. New members are always welcome. After 23 years’ sterling service club co-founder Richard Hewitt will stepping down as secretary of Oakworth Juniors Football Club at the end of the season. He has held the position since he founded the club with Ian Woodward in 1991. The club is looking for a suitable successor to take over as secretary from the club’s AGM in June. Oakworth Methodist Ladies group will be holding a fashion show by Complete Clothing on Thursday, March 13 starting at 7.30pm.

The Friends of Holden Park are planning to use the Tour de France as the theme for their entry in the Yorkshire in Bloom competition. To this end they are currently collecting old bikes and spare wheels that can be decorated with flowers in the colours of the leader’s jerseys. They are also now looking for old metal container such as watering cans, kettles, baskets, etc into which the can put plant pots so if you have anything that would be suitable they would be grateful for all donations. They are also working to provide a play area for the older children of the village on the old tennis courts, so if you wish to make a donation you can drop it off at Holden Hall during opening hours or put through the letter box with a brief note of what it is for. Plans are also afoot to create an exercise trail through the woodlands with money already in place for two pieces of equipment and discussions ongoing with the woodlands manager regarding further items. If you have an ideas for raising funds please contact a member of the group who work in the park every Tuesday afternoon or ring 07972 727269. The next event in the park will be Oakworth Fairy fest which will be on August 9. More details to follow in due course but if you are interested in helping out, holding a stall or performing, please contact the above numbers.

The children of Oakworth will be presenting their 28th pantomime in February this year. Performances will be on Saturday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, February 28 and on Saturday, March 1. There will also be matinees at 2pm on the two Saturdays. Admission is £6 per adult, £4 for a child and £5 for senior citizens.

For the little ones from primary school there is a ‘messy church’ today at Oakworth Methodist Church starting at 3.15pm. This is a fun way to introduce children to the church and involves stories, crafts, games and a shared meal for only £2. Just one small thing – they must bring an adult with them as it is a family event.
