On Saturday there will be an Introduction to the Community First Responders. Go along to see what has been done so far and the future plans for a local defibrillator. This will be in St James Church Hall from 2.30pm to 4pm. The local leader of Community First Responders, Ray Bolton will be attending as will West Yorkshire Ambulance Service’s defibrillator officer Dave Jones – both available to answer any questions people may have.

The next meeting of Silsden Local History Group is on Monday and will take the form of a members’ evening, where people are invited to bring along and share their artefacts, photographs or memories of Silsden life. It will be preceded by a short annual general meeting. Doors open at the Methodist Church at 7pm for a 7.20pm start. The following month will bring a visit from author David Raw, who will discuss the story of the Bradford Pals battalions of the First World War, in which several Silsden men served, including John Gill who died on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.

Rising prices, unemployment and alterations to our social safety net are having a terrible impact nationwide for some of the more vulnerable people in our society. Churches Together in Silsden are supporting local foodbanks. Donations of tinned and non-perishable foodstuffs will be gratefully received at our three churches, any Sunday morning, and at Silsden Methodists refreshment area, Tuesday to Friday, 9.30-11.30am. The Proms on the Farm team proudly present Inn Jeopardy with country & western and folk music from the 60s, 70s and 80s at Silsden Golf Club from 7.30pm on Saturday, April 19. Admission is £6 and proceeds will be split between Silsden Methodist Church and Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice. Tickets are available from Twiggs newsagents on Kirkgate, Silsden. The Methodist Church has a coffee morning each day from Tuesday to Friday. First it’s Chatterbox at the Methodist Church from 9am- noon, Tuesday to Thursday and then the original Friday coffee morning between 9.30am and 11.30am.

Silsden Disco Zumba is held on Monday at 8.30pm and Thursday at 6.15pm and 7.15pm in the Town Hall, Silsden. Wear suitable clothes and take water. All abilities welcome just turn up on the night. See their Facebook page for details.

1st Silsden is a thriving group based at St James’ Church in Silsden and meets Friday evenings. The group currently consists of Beavers, age six to eight, Cubs, age eight to ten, and Scouts, age ten to 14, each holding separate meetings alongside activity days and camps throughout the year.
