A life-saving Keighley charity is more mobile than ever thanks to a van bought and donated by a local business.

Fresh Waters Christian charity shop in Bridge Street is enjoying the benefits of the vehicle, provided by Whitegates Estate Agents.

The charity was set up four years ago and raises money to buy water filters for some of the millions of people in the world without access to clean, safe drinking water. The group’s shop originated in a fundraising drive carried out by members of Keighley’s Liberty Church.

Charity shop spokesman, Chris Kounnas, said his son, Martin, is managing director at Whitegates, and the company has previously supported Fresh Waters’ work. He described the new van, which now proudly displays the charity’s sign, as an “absolute Godsend”.

“We’re using the van to pick up and drop off goods for the shop,” he said. “In the past, we could only use my car, and we missed out on being able to acquire pieces of furniture because we weren’t able to pick them up.

“We get a lot of items donated by elderly people, and they have no means of bringing these things to us themselves.”
