Keighley district householders will soon be offered wheeled bins for their garden waste.

Bradford Council is rolling out a new service, replacing the current green bags.

Each household on existing collection rounds will be entitled to one free brown bin, which will be collected monthly.

A successful pilot scheme last year saw more than 5,000 residents take advantage of the offer.

By the end of this year, it could be extended to about 100,000.

Properties scheduled for bins will receive information leaflets in advance.

Councillor Andrew Thornton, the council’s executive member for environment and sport, said: “I’m really pleased we have been able to maintain and improve our garden waste kerbside collections service.

“We really appreciate the efforts made by residents to recycle, and we want to make it as easy as possible for them.”
