A former Keighley policeman has written an e-book about personal safety.

David Brooksbank, who retired from the force in 2006, has had the book published on Amazon Kindle.

The 140,000-word work, entitled The Real And Present Danger – Keeping You And Your Family Safe In The Presence Of Danger, covers many aspects of safety.

It includes practical advice on issues ranging from lone working, staying safe at work and protecting your identity, to selecting a babysitter and pre-school childcare for your child, and spotting the characteristics of people who groom youngsters.

Mr Brooksbank, 58, who lives at Silsden, served 30 years in the police force, including nine as crime prevention officer.

He now runs a personal safety training organisation.

“For many years, I have been studying the habits of criminals and examining the strategies for keeping us safe in the presence of a real and present danger,” he said.

“I have read many books and journals and attended training courses, yet I have never found one publication that encompasses most of the personal safety information available for the protection of ourselves and our families – hence this book.”

Mr Brooksbank said he had been working on the book “on and off” for about four years. The book, which was published only a fortnight ago, has already attracted positive feedback.

The book, which sells for £6.15, can be found by visiting amazon.co.uk and searching for David Brooksbank.
