Glusburn Youth Theatre’s production of Peter Pan written by John Morley and directed by James Jennings was put on at Glusburn Institute.

For another year running this was fun, energetic, colourful and entertaining for all the family, with full chorus numbers beaming with energy, solo singers that were soft and relaxing, dances to change the mood, and to top it off the amazing flying ballet.

The dark and sinister Hook played by Mark Nomik got plenty of boos and hisses helped along by his assistant Henry Varney who had the audience in his hands.

Callum Spencer played the funny and witty Dame Laughing Water and also had the audience on board.

The elegant, well-dressed and well-spoken Mrs Darling played by Sophie Smith aged 10 stole the show for me . With her soft, beautiful but powerful voice.

Sophie sang her way through two solo numbers, backed up by the faultless Peter Pan played by Carly Upton who for her first year with GYT took to the part of principals boy very well and took the chance to wow the audience with strong and powerful songs.

The dances throughout were nicely performed.

GYT are renowned for their amazing flying ballet and again this did not fail to wow the audience with a colourful and vibrant routine.

To add excitement to the show we had the pleasure of a short routine to Come Fly With Me where we saw Peter Pan, Tinkerbell (Teona Gott) and Michael (Sofia Apreda) take to the ropes and fly with grace.

This was a very well put-together pantomime, maybe running 15 to 30 minutes too long, but it didn’t stop my four year old enjoying every minute right up to the final curtain.

Great to see a cast of 40 young people enjoying and taking up the world of pantomime. This was a show not to be missed.
