I am writing to you to voice my disgust at the council’s recent repairs to my little street – ‘Sett-to over road repair’ (Keighley News, February 20).

As the street is steep and cobbled, some of the setts have become loose, very uneven, rutted and very unsafe too.

Instead of replacing the setts and renewing the cobbles, the council has just covered the areas mentioned with a rough coating of loose tar and bitumen.

This has caused a very uneven and slippery surface, which is already becoming loose during recent heavy rain.

As mentioned before, my street is steep, so cars are now travelling at a much faster speed too.

The cobbles have before kept the traffic speeds much slower.

As we have children playing in the street, the increase in speed is very upsetting, and all eyes are on full alert for our little ones. We have many senior people, too, Many are very worried about crossing the street as the top surface is slippery and greasy.

I think the job has been done without any concern or thought on our behalf. I feel very upset that my street has become ruined and cars are racing up at a much higher speed.

The winter has been kind, but if snow falls on this top-coating, it will become very dangerous, and I feel it will not be long before someone is hurt or even worse.

Many residents have raised concerns about the aforementioned points, and feel we have been let down.

We would like the council to complete this work properly and keep our little street up to a high standard to show off our town’s great appeal.

So come on council, roll up your sleeves and work with pride.
