The all-age worship service at Long Lee Methodist Chapel was led by Maurice Baren. There was a scripture reading by Elaine Webber before Maurice spoke about how even mighty trees grew from a small seed. He went on to talk about apples and in particular, Bramley apples, and how these originally came from Southwell where there is a stained glass window celebrating this fruit. The original apple tree is still there in the garden where the Bramley family lived. He then presented a bowl of daffodils to the chapel with a hope that when they had finished flowering the bulbs would by planted in the chapel garden. Recorded organ music for the hymns was provided by Ann Murgatroyd. The Rev Malcolm Foy was the celebrant at the said holy communion at St Barnabas’ Church. He spoke about finding God in every day life even in its darkest areas. He was also celebrant at the sung parish communion and preached about the gradual revelation of the true nature and glory of Jesus shown in His life and suffering. Readers were Marie Driver, Margaret Anstey and Joyce Samuels. There was a time for the lighting of votive candles. Jill Dodsworth administered the chalice and Billy Clayton was organist. Rod Tickner led the evening guest service and the speaker was Michael Parkinson. This was followed by an informal discussion on points raised.
