A schoolgirl’s poetic prose had all the bear essentials to earn a prestigious prize.

The creative work by Page Wilson, based on a John Lewis Christmas advert featuring a bear, was sent to the retailer’s public relations department.

And company bosses were so impressed, they sent the 11-year-old an original illustration of the ad bear and stickers for her whole class at Merlin Top Primary Academy in Guard House.

Plus the firm asked to use the poem on its ‘Bringing Skills To Life’ website.

Tim Mobbs, a year six teacher at Merlin Top, said: “Page’s writing is consistently fantastic, and it is great she has been recognised.

“It is really important for the children to have a purpose for writing, and this has been a great purpose.”

The year six youngsters undertook the creative writing project after seeing the John Lewis advert, which tells the story of a bear – which has never seen Christmas – and his friend, the hare.

The school framed the illustration from John Lewis and presented it to Page and her family.
