Apprentice butcher Conor Chappell has notched up a top national title.
The 21-year-old from Silsden has been crowned Best Retail Meat Apprentice by the UK’s Meat Training Council.
Mr Chappell, who works for Ilkley butcher David Lishman, has recently completed his level two Certificate for Proficiency in Meat and Poultry Industry Skills at Leeds City College. Strong feedback from his tutor, and the quality of his coursework, helped earn him the coveted accolade.
“I still can’t quite believe my work has been recognised at this level – it’s an incredible honour,” he said. “My intention now is to move on to level three of my course, while continuing my full-time job at Lishman’s. David and the lads here have been really supportive throughout my course, so I’d like to thank them for helping make this happen.”
Mr Lishman paid tribute. “Conor’s proven himself to be a dedicated and talented young butcher, and it’s been a pleasure to see his progression during the past couple of years,” he said.
Mr Chappell received his award at a ceremony in London, which he attended with his wife, Vanessa.
