A former tenant of the Keighley Town Council-run civic centre has been fined £100 by magistrates after admitting using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards a councillor.
Grant Doyle, 31, of Airedale View in Cross Hills, was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge when he appeared at Bradford & Keighley Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
The offence related to an incident involving him and town councillor Graham Mitchell in North Street, Keighley, on September 19 last year.
Property agent Doyle – who previously had his business based in part of Keighley Civic Centre in North Street – had also faced a charge of assaulting Coun Mitchell by beating, but that was discontinued. He had pleaded not guilty to that offence.
Coun Mitchell represents Oakworth ward on the town council, and is chairman of the watch and transport committee.
