A series of evening courses is being staged at Keighley’s Fab Lab Airedale.

The launch of the classes at the Dalton Lane state-of-the-art fabrication workshop is part of efforts to boost the facility’s role in the community.

Courses on offer include hand embroidery and sewing, which begin today; digital photography, starting on Tuesday; flower arranging (April 3); life fitness (April 7), and programming Raspberry Pi (April 9).

Each course lasts 18 hours and costs £42, but is free to under-18s and people on Jobseekers Allowance.

Chris Stott, for Fab Lab, said: “We are running an expanding range of these courses, many of which will make use of the unique facilities based within the site.

“As with all things of this nature, this fantastic facility will only remain if people use it.

“We want to ensure we serve a purpose to the people of Keighley and its surrounds, so that Fab Lab continues to be heavily used, and we welcome feedback from the community in relation to this.”

The hope is for the facility to also play a greater part in the manufacturing sector.

Finance has been secured from the Skills Enhancement Fund to deliver CAD/CAM training to small businesses.

And an Easter boot camp is being held – from April 7 to 11 – for 16 to 18-year-olds, as part of a bid to get more young people interested in engineering and enterprise activities. It is being sponsored by medical engineering company DePuy Synthes. Visit fablabairedale.org for further information.
