Rotarians are staging a coffee morning to raise funds for a group that provides a lifeline to elderly people.

The event, at the Keighley Salvation Army on March 25, is in aid of Haworth & Worth Valley Rotary Club’s Contact the Elderly group. Fancy goods, books, toiletries, cakes and handmade chocolates will be on sale.

Admission to the 10am to noon event is £1, including tea or coffee and biscuits.

The Contact the Elderly group, which started just over a year ago, meets one Sunday a month for afternoon tea.

“We have eight guests who attend regularly – they are picked up from their homes and taken to someone’s house for afternoon tea,” said Rotarian Chris Bown.

“This gives them the company of people in similar circumstances – either housebound or unable to get around easily – and they very munch enjoy themselves! For some it is often the only time they go out in the week.

“It is such a worthwhile project to be involved in, but we need funds to enable us to take them out for treats such as fish and chips or a Christmas lunch. Also, organiser Hilary Wharton buys gifts for the guests on their birthdays and at Christmas.”
