A Keighley event to celebrate the Tour de France has received backing from Olympic cyclist Chris Boardman.

The gold medal winner and sports commentator has sent a letter of support to Keighley Film Club for its planned Cycling For Life exhibition.

Chris, left, who was awarded an MBE for his cycling career, wrote that he was pleased to endorse the show. He said: “This is a fantastic event for a very worthy cause, to get more people cycling!

“I would urge everyone, from beginners to committed cyclists and even those just thinking about two wheels, to go and visit this exhibition.”

The film club plans to host Cycling For Life at Central Hall, in Alice Street, on June 28, to encourage people inspired by the Tour to take up cycling.

Exhibitors will be invited to display their wares, alongside educational material and information relating to cycling.

Film club spokesman Alan Watkinson said: “I wrote to Chris Boardman asking him to open the exhibition, but he was already committed elsewhere.”
