European students welcomed to Keighley drew inspiration from Yorkshire’s past to create an eye-catching range of retro hairstyles.

As part of a project called BRAID, hosted last week by Keighley Campus Leeds City College, the students took to the salon to put together coiffures based on themes as diverse as 1940s fashion, wellington boots and even sheep.

BRAID is funded by the European Commission’s Leonardo Life Long Learning Programme Partnerships.

Keighley Campus, along with the Printworks Campus in Leeds, welcomed 30 hairdressing students, tutors and industry professionals from across Europe to their training salons to take part in the scheme.

The continental visitors joined students from Leeds City College’s own Level 3 hairdressing programme.

Hazel Gilmartin, college curriculum area manager for hairdressing, said: “BRAID opens their eyes to the different ways hairdressing is taught across Europe and to job opportunities .”
