A former Keighley man was jailed for 15 months at Bradford Crown Court last Wednesday for affray and racial aggravation.

Omar Safdar, 22, now of Park Street, Oldham, was found guilty of affray in January this year, after a trial heard he had been part of a group of four men who attacked two men in their car in Greenhead Road, Keighley, in August 2012.

Prosecutor David Hall said while on bail for that offence Safdar had been involved in a fight outside a Blackpool nightclub on February 11 this year.

Mr Hall said Safdar had initially been arrested for being drunk and disorderly, before becoming “particularly beligerant and aggressive” towards police, using threats and racist language.

He was also found to have seven wraps of cocaine on his person.

Judge Peter Benson sentenced Safdar to 12 months for affray, with a further three months for racially aggravated harassment.

He received no separate penalty for the possession of class A drugs, and had 14 days removed from the sentence for an electronic tag curfew, in place since February 12.
