Tribute to councillor by Steeton Primary School
2:53pm Thursday 27th March 2014 in News
Steeton Primary School plans to build a greenhouse in memory of a local councillor.
The school gardening club will place a plaque in the greenhouse in tribute to the late Michael Kelly (below).
The £1,000 funding for the greenhouse came from a Bradford Council fund originally administered by Coun Kelly.
Each of the three Bradford councillors representing Craven ward – Michael Kelly, Andrew Mallinson and Adrian Naylor – were given a budget to spend on local community projects.
Coun Kelly, who lived in Addingham, died last month at the age of 70 after a long illness. Coun Mallinson decided the Steeton school would be a worthy beneficiary of the cash pot. He said: “This is something lasting in Michael’s memory. Gardening and flowers were his passion.”
Other money from Coun Kelly’s budget will be spent on youth projects across Craven ward.
Coun Kelly also had a close connection with Woodville, the Keighley facility which for many years has provided horticulture training for young people.
Steeton School spokesman Elsie Vogeler said the greenhouse would be placed in the school’s wild area.
