A Keighley community centre has been brightened up thanks to a scheme designed to boost young people’s employment prospects.

A group of 16-to-24-year-olds on the Prince’s Trust team programme at Keighley Campus Leeds City College have completed work on the Sangat Centre, in Marlborough Street.

They redecorated the children’s creche and entrance, as part of a 12-week programme. The group spent eight days at the Sangat Centre, stripping the crèche of furniture and sanding the old paintwork before getting to work with paintbrushes and rollers.

A project spokesman said: “With a fresh new colour scheme, both areas now look clean, bright and more attractive for users.”

Sangat Centre manager Ghulam Rabani said: “The team had a professional manner, were friendly and engaged with staff and centre users well during their time on-site.”

Prince’s Trust team leaders Elaine Marchant-Sidwell and Kathryn Wood said the students demonstrated excellent teamwork.

Elaine added: “We are very impressed with our team members for their hard work and commitment.”
