Local politician Andrew Mallinson has expressed concern about an underspend on community projects by Keighley Area Committee.

The district councillor this week claimed several thousand pounds had not yet been earmarked for projects in this financial year.

He fears that if the money is not spent by the end of this month, it will be taken back into Bradford Council’s main budget.

The underspend is understood to relate to a £6,000 fund for town-wide projects meeting priorities in the area committee’s Action Plan.

Area committee chairman Councillor Steve Pullen admitted some of the money had not yet been spent.

He said part of the committee’s budget rolled over each year because projects had not been finalised at the change of financial year.

Coun Pullen added: “The money won’t get lost to Keighley. Schemes are out there waiting for something to happen.”
