A leading member of the Methodist Church in Keighley has died at the age of 73.

Tony Ainley, a well-known graphic designer, had been a preacher for 50 years.

Mr Ainley (pictured) left Bingley Grammar School at 16 to take up an apprenticeship with a leading Bradford print company.

He was a gold medal winner with the British Federation of Master Printers aged 22.

He worked for himself from the age of 24, and established a design and graphic business dealing with a wide variety of clients, including international household names.

Mr Ainley was passionate about typography, and was working on creative commissions until the last weeks of his life. He was also a Keighley Rotary Club member for 30 years.

Mr Ainley had particular penchants for black labradors and Land Rovers, and he regularly exercised the dogs across Harden Moor. He lived on the moors for 66 years until moving south in 2013.

Mr Ainley is survived by Pauline, his wife of more than 50 years, two sons and six grandchildren.

A service of celebration and thanksgiving will be held at 11am today in Keighley Shared Church.
