A Keighley man being cared for at home by Manorlands has been given a new lease of life thanks to a Steeton company.

Acorn Stairlifts has installed one of its machines free of charge for the man, who wishes to remain anonymous.

The firm – based at the Millennium Business Park, in Station Road – was approached by Manorlands for advice, because the staircase being looked at for a possible lift would need a curved device.

But when company bosses heard about the man’s plight, they offered to donate a stairlift, which they did within days.

“As soon as we received the inquiry from Manorlands we were delighted to help out,” said Acorn company secretary Dave Belmont.

“Acorn can install a stairlift on a curved staircase more quickly than any other company in the world.

“It is excellent to be able to assist a Keighley family with one of our machines.”

The recipient is currently being given care by the Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice through one of its community-based clinical nurse specialists, who support patients wishing to be looked after at home.

His condition had made it virtually impossible for him to negotiate the stairs, and as a result he had struggled to get downstairs to be part of family life and enjoy time with his grandchildren.

Tina Hayton, a Manorlands clinical nurse specialist, said: “A stairlift can be invaluable for anyone who has lost the freedom to move around in their own home.

“Being able to act quickly in these situations is so important for our patients.

“We are so grateful to Acorn for making it happen for this family in need.”
