Parish councillors welcomed the outcome of a new project designed to involve the village community in deciding how public cash should be allocated.
Oxenhope parish councillors said the participatory budgeting meeting – which saw seven local groups share a total of £1,170 – had been a great success. The scheme was set up to allow parishioners more influence over issues that affect them.
Parish council chairman Councillor Neal Cameron said: “I think it was my favourite night as a parish councillor – not having to make decisions but being able to listen to some excellent presentations and give some money out.
“It was a very good idea but it would have been nice to have had a room full of people though.”
Coun Penny Cusdin suggested when the occasion is held again it would be better not to arrange it for the school holidays to ensure more people can attend.
